I will admit that when I move into a larger place and can finally set up my
audio equipment the way I want it, one of the first things I will do is get
a cassette deckmy old one, which had been serving me well for nearly a
decade, finally gave up the ghost last year, and since my cassettes are in
storage right now, I didn't think it made sense to replace it right away.
This isn't so much because of the commercial cassettes I have, but because
of all the mixtapes and personal recordings I've made.
I've thought of simply getting an old Portastudio rather than a cassette
deck, actually. Some of the tapes were originally recorded on one. I could
always retrieve the information by digitizing both sides off a deck and
combining them in Audacity, but why not just get one? Has anyone digitized
cassettes from a deck and from a Portastudio and compared the quality? Any
thoughts?
