Great to see the wide variety in these lists. Lots of stuff to explore.
And super to see lists from folks assumed gone to Facebook, or just
gone. This year I pulled myself away somewhat from exploring the musical
past and managed not only to enjoy these, but a number of others both
good & bad. I think my #1 pick is obvious from anyone whose read my
posts - heh.

1. Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History
Stumbled upon these guys early 2010 when listed as opener for a local
Phoenix club show, tho they decided to play a French festival in front
of 100K+ instead - the nerve! They would have blown Phoenix off the
stage as I'm sure they did at other stops. Played to death - tho still
getting ipod spins in the Corolla. They now compete with Vampire Weekend
for most appearances in TV & radio commercials.

2. James Yuill - Movement In a Storm
Folk fused with electronica. Clued into Yuill by my daughter, KSCU DJ
for 10+ years. I also recommend his heavily remixed "Turning Down Water
For Air (Earth & Fire Versions)", issued at the tail end of 2009.

3. Agony Aunts - Greater Miranda
After repeated listens on Bandcamp finally bought the damn CD & instant
download. I love the combination of sounds presented here, along with
the fine production. Bay Area bands rule!

4. MGMT - Congratulations
There's alot not to like about this record, but the 12 minute "Siberian
Breaks" is easily my favorite song of the year, and it along with 3
other cuts remain in rotation on the ipod after 9 months. They've been
covering The Cleaners From Venus' "Only a Shadow", which hopefully means
they will continue to learn from the vast pop & psychedelic music
heritage now only a YouTube smartphone gesture away.

5. Kula Shaker - Pilgrims Progress
It's psychedelic baby! Also pastoral, chamberesque and baroque, all with
fine harmonies. A long running UK band virtually unknown elsewhere.*

*6. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Still absorbing, and it's growing on me with every listen. Another band
bluring genres.

7. The Rubinoos - Automatic Toaster
Hey! Earth really is #1! As was their October 40th anniversary gig.

8. The Ocean Tango - S/T
Louis Philippe collaborates with Swedish group Testbild. I have a weak
spot for Louis P. which clouds my objective judgment, but his fans will
like this alot.

9. Andy Kim - Happen Again
Yes, THAT Andy Kim! First album in over 20 years they say. MOR at it's
best I say. Leadoff cut "3 Days In Heaven" is a favorite 2k10 song.

10. Field Music - Measure
Thanks to Jeff Shelton for the recommendation on Audities earlier in the
year. Another interesting fusion of sounds which gives me hope for new
pop music directions.

Merry new year!

- Michael
