Bill, I like that interpretation! Really works for me.
The only interpretation I read long ago was that it was an over the top "isn't life great to be in love" sarcastic tone per such carefree bliss was an illusion for a gay relationship. I looked at the lyrics again and I'm less sure that really fits.
Drew, I can understand not liking that track. I recall at first find it off putting but I came to like it. That album and CONEY ISLAND BABY remain my favs despite a few other great ones he released.
