It's both!
And the band must have known beyond a doubt that artwork would never, ever
make it on to the released version. Were they already at war with their
label and this was just an annoying stunt they pulled to make the Virgin
folks jump through hoops?
Also, as a former audiophile, I'm skeptical about that inverted polarity
claim.
But XTC rules and I hope this release is successful for Andy & Co.
