Michael,
Yes, those are terrific tracks. I have a 20 track best of by them (Soul Agenda) and it includes them too. Really pretty great stuff. Having a sister 2 years older then I once in a while she would buy a 45 that would floor me. One of those was "Pay to the Piper" by The Chairman of the Board. That was the first song I recall hearing by them and another nice track.
Cool that you saw him in back in the day.

Speaking of shows. Last night I took my 15 year old daughter to her first "real" show. Nellie McKay was playing at a the Dakota here in Mpls (she's playing again tonight). This was the perfect person for us to see together as she is a fav of both of ours and I also had never seen her before. The Dakota is a sit down supper club and was a lovely venue to see her in and she was backed by the band from Prairie Home Companion. More then half her songs were standards either off her Doris Day disc or others. She also sang a few of her "older"..I WANNA GET MARRIED, THE DOG SONG and MOTHER OF PEARL. She is a true charmer on stage with often very funny banter between songs. One little moment some guy yells "I love you Nellie". Her sweet voiced reply "I love you too" (pause) "but I think it's best we remain apart". This charm and sweetness remained when she did signings after the show and my daughter got to meet her. That she was so lovely and kind afterwards and cemented my daughter's experience was icing on the cake. This from a woman who often writes songs with such satire, sadness or bite... A night we'll both remember.
Oh, the only negative of the night was a table of four next to us that chattered through the entire show. We were in the mezzanine section in front of the stage and I'd look around and see everyone else under a spell listening while these four (mostly only in ear shot of myself and a few others) talked and laughed. I would have normally said something but I know my daughter would have been mortified. They even managed to be at their loudest when she sang a lovely track dedicated to the sound man who had to suddenly leave per his mother had a stroke and it was uncertain if she'd survive. So it goes....It couldn't spoil this night...

Best,
Steve D.
