Let me start by saying to all those folks on here who have a hand in setting up various pop festivals... For the love of all thats holy how in the world do you do it?!?!??!??!????

Once upon a time I had a simple plan. I was gonna throw myself a party. Hire a couple of bands I love, invite a messof people I at least liked, buy a keg of good beer, something edible.... simple, right?

Right off the bat let me make one thing clear... in the following I am NOT bitching about the bands/people involved in any way, shape or form. I'm using the names because it makes this more interesting to read for Audities types, that is all.

Version One of my bash was to take place on Labor Day weekend. My birthday is in early September so this made sense. The lineup I wanted was Splitsville and The Lackloves. Emails were sent. The Lackloves said "Sure. Sounds like fun." Splitsville said.... "Hmmm...we gotta run it by the wives." Fair enough. Turns out the wives nixed the idea because of a family tradition of Labor Day vacation. Its too bad....but its a big pop world out there.

Version Two of the bash was also on Labor Day and would have featured The Lackloves and The Spongetones! I contacted Jamie Hoover and the lads and, while it was a bit pricier to bring them out I could swing it (just.) The day after they said they could do it I found out my full time job was being downsized to half-time, and what was doable became totally unworkable short of selling a kidney. Crap.

Version Three of the bash was moved to the middle of August because 1) I had time to move it, and 2) Maybe I could get Splitsville on the new date! Emails were sent and received and YES! They could do it. However, something happened over the next couple of weeks because Splitsville had to back out. I guess the guys aren't enjoying playing with one another anymore. That REALLY sucks because I love Splitsville. Them not being able to play my party is one thing. Them ceasing to exist is downright depressing.

Version Four of the bash...also mid August gets a new headliner. Webb Wilder, the last of the full grown men, is booked to do a duo acoustic show. Hallelujah! Now all that was left was to confirm that The Lackloves could make the new August date...which I just discovered they cannot because of, lets just say a previous engagement.

Well...shit. Here I am about a month out from the party, and I'd still like to have a band open up the show.

Here is where I'm hoping the Audities list can help. Does anyone know of a Twin Cities power pop band that might fit the bill? I'm so hopelessly out of touch with the local music scene. (yes, I've been THAT busy... why do you think I'm throwing this party????) Any auditeers help will certainly be rewarded with invites to the bash, which WILL be a great time.

Thanks folks,

Rich Horton
