Wow, this is sad. I too loved those albums he did with Van Duren and
pursued an interview with Tommy Hoehn back when Blue Orange was released in the
early part of this past decade. It was hard to get ahold of him, and I first
had to go through the owner of the label who released the albums (one of
Hoehn's exes) who put me on to Van Duren, who was very cool, and then to Hoehn
himself, who was kind of guarded but ended up talking quite freely about his
problems and how his career got off track for a while. I will say one thing,
every album released on Munster (the label also released some solo stuff by
Hoehn besides the two discs with Van Duren) was excellent. I liked those
duo discs the best but Hoehn's later solo work was very good and filled with
pop equal to his early solo albums. Very sad to hear he has actually passed
as I had hoped more discs with Van Duren would eventually be issued.
PS, thanks for the link on your blog, Mr. Holmes.
