I scored a free ticket the last time that Joey Molland's Badfinger played the Sellersville Theater and went by myself with some reservation.

In Badfinger lore, it always appeared to me that Joey was feeding on the bones of the Badfinger corpse.  Again, to me, I likened it to going to see "Ronnie Wood's Rolling Stones" or something like that...

That said... I was blown away by how good this band was (is).   Seriously.

They played almost note-perfect versions of the Badfinger classics (hits and album tracks).  Joey sang some, not all, of the set and the band he has assembled was very impressive.

I hung around afterwards and got to meet Joey.  He seemed genuinely happy to be doing what he was doing, glad to be playing for the fans, and just having a good time.  He also told some very funny (and pointed) stories about Badfinger's not-so-happy experience working with Todd Rundgren.

I was very glad that I went.

A funny aside... as I left the theater and made my way to my car, a woman was walking by herself alongside me and said hello.  She then said "isn't it great?"  I asked what she meant.  She continued... "Badfinger.  Together again after all these years.  And in our little town!!!"    I had to make a quick decision - be a kill-joy and explain it, or let her think that it was the original band.   I decided to hybrid the two and nicely explained that while Pete, Tom, and Mike were no longer with us, it was great to have Joey there to keep their music alive.  She apparently didn't know the history, but laughed, agreed, and went on her way.

OK, long post aside... I recommend seeing them if you get the chance.

Subject: Badfinger/Smash Palace show

Yesterday, I got word from a Smash Palace email blast that they're
opening for Badfinger at the Sellersville Theatre on March 28 (I guess
this music venue is 20 - 30 miles north of Philly).

Not that I'll be anywhere in the vicinity of this gig, but has anybody
heard this Joey Molland version of the band?  (All commentary that
relates this new thread to the Who/SB thread will be in bad taste...and
welcome!)
