I have to admit I'm confused by much of the attitude regarding The Who, and their continued approach as performers. I don't think that other veterans get as much gruff as they do, so I'm truly interested to hear opinions as to what sets them apart. Why does the listening audience become so cynical and vocal about them, as opposed to other acts like the Rolling Stones, Pretty Things, NRBQ, Buddy Guy, BB King, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan etc etc.... I know some of these other folks draw some negative criticism as well, but it just seems that The Who are the subject of more debate than these other folks.... I'm going to see some other true veterans (Neville Brothers and Dr. John) tomorrow night and I know they'll put on an excellent, heartfelt show much as the dozens of other times I've seen them...
Is it because The Who made a name for themselves as young rebels? Is it literally because of one line in one song (My Generation)? I truly don't get it.......
