Oops! Forgot about that one! I was thinking of one of his ballads that
hit in the late '70's.....

ust for accuracy, Coop's last hit was "Poison" which went to #7 in the
US in
989. Cliff's version of "I Can See Clearly Now" hit in 1993. I ain't
so good
t the math, but...

Jimmy Cliff actually had a hit in the early '90's with a version of
Johnny
ash's I Can See Clearly Now, at least 15 years after Cooper's last hit,
which
oesn't mean much but reggae has few legends and Cliff is definitely one
of
hem.

"Decades of obscurity"...a little hyperbole there? Coop has been making
albums
nd touring for forty years; albeit his biggest sellers were in the 70s.
Did The
ollies have a "long arc career"? When is the last time recording artist
Jimmy
liff was a hot item?

Nothing wrong with rock theatre - and the original band (Bruce,
Dunaway, etc.)
icked ass. I would think doing something a little different would work
in his
avor.

Lots of timeless songs never made the Top Ten. "I'm Eighteen" was every
bit
he rallying cry that "School's Out" was, albeit not as bombastic, but
how many
rtists release two songs that become teen anthems? Plus there were
several
ther Coop tunes that got a crapload of airplay and he toured regularly.

Coop is one of my many HOF "WTF?"s, but if you're looking for name
ecognition, record sales, fame and impact...why not KISS? Hit
records...how
bout The Monkees?
