 there also seems to be a bias against prog rock and powerpop....   you'd think proggers like Yes and the Moody Blues should be in... and surely, Big Star influenced as many powerpop bands as, say, Buffalo Springfield did for folk/country/rock followers (although they probably got a nod because of their famous line-up)
