C'mon, ABBA is at least as "rock and roll" as the Hollies!
Which makes me think of this:
On the live "Stoney Evening" album of a 1971 Crosby/Nash show, Graham
jokingly strums the opening bars of "Bus Stop," and that gets a derisive
laugh from the performers and the audience. They were just too cool for that
kid stuff, man.
I was a big fan of Crosby & Nash as a duo (their first album together means
more to me than any of the ones they did with Stills and/or Neil) but
hearing that moment of misapplied self-deprecation makes me appreciate the
best thing about being middle-aged: to be able to let go of "hipness."
(To his credit, Nash himself later re-embraced his Hollies past.)
