Any Phoenix fans out there who haven't embraced the music of Tahiti 80 have
missed the boat the first time around, particularly their Puzzle and
Wallpaper for the Soul CDs. I'm having a hard time believing that Phoenix
never heard of them since both bands operate out of France and their sounds
are remarkably similar. Regardless of any unacknowledged influence, Phoenix
writes great tunes and I think both CDs are very worthy listens whether you
like Tahiti 80 or not.

Phoenix is magnificent. The last two albums (It's Like You Never Left and
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix) are stunning. Unlike the Coneheads, they are
really from France. And I've seen them live, and they are a marvelous live
band, and the lead singer sounded fine live without studio processing. They
remind me a bit of early R.E.M., definitely influenced by the Strokes, but
not really similar to either band. Highly highly recommended.

Check the first two songs on their myspace --
http://www.myspace.com/wearephoenix -- those are the big singles from their
latest. Also search out samples of Sometimes in the Fall, Rally and One
Time Too Many from the last one. Great stuff!

Gary
