Late reply (better than none, eh?), there are a few sites that offer not just wav quality (i.e. 44 khz/16bit) but beyond that. One example I've been looking at recently (because a performance I did with the NY Phil was just made available there) is HDTracks.com, which has limited stuff available at 96kHz/24bit (essentially DVD-A or SACD quality, which presumably is the source for many of their offerings). A lot of classical, but also smatterings of jazz, pop, rock, r&b, whatever. I think one of the labels they have in particular is KOCH, so there's some hi-rez Kinks to be had, even the Smithereen's "Tommy", recently released.
Of course, this assumes you've got the hardware (and/or software) to play the stuff, but options are definitely out there.
