I was 12 when the Beatles hit and captured me for all time, so the Beatles are on a higher shelf than anyone ele.... but, as their long-lived comtemporaries, the Kinks were just a notch below the Beatles...
 
And then I came upon XTC in the late 70's and they gave me 25 more great years... I love and appreciate many artists today from Death Cab for Cutie to the Raveonettes but it's more of an appreciation of them rather than looking for life guidance lol
 
Thank God Dylan's still around.....   :)

For me (in retrospect), if The Beatles = Big Bang, then XTC = Speed of Light.
