While no musical artists really have impacted my world view, they have
changed the way I do things. They Might Be Giants, got me interested in
more obscure things, historical figures, etc. Up to that point, I liked
joke songs, Dr. Demento type stuff, showtunes, and oldies radio (but the
more jokier songs). And TMBG do fall into that joke arena a bit, but I
found the music to be much more robust. They really paved the way for me
to get into power pop the way I did.

I had to go to the library to get older TMBG albums. Then, I learned how
to rip CD's. I would go to the library, get a bunch of cool looking CD's
and rip them. One of those CD's was the Rhino Poptopia CDs. But this
leads to something else, from these experiences ripping CDs, etc. I
learned how to use computers to get music (illegally at first, but then
pay sites...TMBG was one of the first major artists to really utilize
emusic to good effect). Getting involved with TMBG message boards and
mailing lists got me interested in these types of mailing lists, which
eventually lead me to the Audities group.

So, I guess the point of all of this is to show you maybe what some in
my generation experienced with music. I think I am probably the youngest
person on this list, based on the other responses...I'm 26...so it's
interesting to see what a different world music is to those without the
constant internet access and mp3s, etc. It's hard for me to really pin
down one specific artist, the way many of you can, I think mostly
because there is so much more coming at me, with TV, internet, movies,
etc. I was realizing, I can't think of too many big bands that I was in
on the ground floor for. I did think of Coldplay...but I only got into
them because of Travis, which I was late to the game for.

Blah Blah Blah...I'll shutup now.

Jordan

p.s. one more thing...for some reason, I refuse to get any Beatles
stuff, I mean I like it and all, but I guess I feel like I'm too late
for that train to get involved. But these upcoming reissues sound
intriguing, so maybe I'll take the plunge with those... Still, it's hard
to get by without hearing any Beatles songs, so I am pretty well versed
in the Beatles, I think...
