Well, I'm not saying I needed day-by-day guidance or anything....  and certainly, as a person who devours books and articles by the score I had other influences, but I am not alone in this thought process.... the Beatles were hugely influential to people my age (14-16) in the mid-60's.... I grew up in a small town and my family was not particularly close, so I found other possibilities in many areas, and this is one of them... of course, as life went on, many many other sources informed my choices and worldview... please don't think I'm saying that in my late 50's I'm still stuck in the mindset of my 14 year-old self....

I've ended up traveling extensively to over 45 countries... I have led a life I could never have imagined back then.... I'm extremely active in a variety of charities... and this small-town boy would not have had the tools to reach all these goals unless his mind was opened up to other possibilities, and yes, the music of the day was one avenue to the life I've led...

I'm with Stewart on this one. I have a hard time fathoming how one could have a personal worldview emerge from a particular band's or artist's music. I'm not knocking your Beatles-derived philosophy of life, Michael -- different strokes for different folks -- I'm just saying that I find it hard to understand. Not impossible, but pretty difficult. Pop music has always been a major part of my life, but it's not the least bit formative to my belief system.

Perhaps it's a generational thing.

Interesting bit of revelation, though, Michael. Thanks for sharing it.
