The Beach Boys were my Beatles.... But you are correct to assume, the 
Beatles turned everything upside down.

XTC is one of the many bands I've liked since, but there isn't another 
"perfect" band, except maybe the Who.

Bands like XTC, REM and GbV have been major faves, but they are all flawed.

In the case of XTC, for every great song, there are two or three that 
just try too hard to be clever.... I also find Andy P's iron hand, and 
obsessive chasing perfection have taken some of the air out of the music 
for me. Wasp Star is as un-listenable as Bigger Bang. They have so much 
material, there is still a mountain of great songs, but it's become 
increasingly difficult for me to carry the banner so high.

The Beatles ended on a high note, and as Anthology proved, even the 
discards were pretty good.
