The Hold Steady -- Boys and Girls in America (2006).
Bought it on the recommendation of a friend and some short samples on
Amazon. Did not expect to be thrown to the ground by this record. Took a
long time to get it out of my player. Still like it muchly. Perfectly
happy to shuffle the crap, repeatedly, out of this one.

I hope folks are still on this thread tonight. I'm going to have to
research this when I get to my hotel after dinner.

Just to add to Greg's description: to some degree, Melony fits in with
fellow Swedish power poppers like Eggstone and The Wannadies. But they have
an affinity for rock in the vein of Cheap Trick/ELO/The Move mixed in with
really rocking yet melodic guitars a la Husker Du. That being said, they
have a distinct style and write clever lyrics. One of my all-time faves.

Mike Bennett has already nominated this one, so in effect I'm seconding his
nomination:
Melony, *Satisfiction* (1997)
It's hooky as all get-out, the arrangements and sound are fantastic, it's
lyrically clever (especially in light of the fact that English is the
lyricist's second language), the song-by-song batting average is very high,
and the album as a whole avoids the common power-pop pitfall of slavishly
recreating (i.e., rehashing) the British Invasion circa 1965.
Plus, it rocks.
