I take the word "perfection" seriously. There are only a few dozen
albums since 1956 that engage me all the way through listening to them,
and only a couple of them are power pop albums released since 1990.
I choose the album I touted a few weeks ago - Chris Richards and the
Subtractions - "Sad Sounds of the Summer". Every song is incredibly
well thought out and wrought. Aside from the clarity of singing issues
that only kinda bug me, there is only one section - the bridge on the
first song ("I Can't Quit Her") that I actually wish he'd made different
choices in the notes. Thus, it's as close to perfection as I can come
up with. It was released this year...sosumi.
