I think one reason may be that there is nobody really advocating for
Power Pop out in the world. I see more people trying to get the word
out on other types of music, but for your more hip bands, Wilco,
Feist, Death Cab, etc. I think there is more of a risk when pushing
power pop that people will reject it on the surface, not even
understanding the value the music has.

I think another problem is the availability of the music. You can talk
up certain artists, and try to get some interest from people, but if
they don't see it right away in stores, or even in iTunes, it will
quickly be forgotten. There are only a few sources where power pop
bands are mentioned with frequency, and they are not the major outlets.

The fact is, you have to know where your interests are to track down
good information on it. People just don't know if they are interested
in something called power pop.

After dealing with hundreds of confused looks at the mention of the
word, I have still found no way to describe it to people in any
meaningful fashion. I think people like simplicity, and something they
can wrap their heads around, and I think power pop is difficult for
some to go along with.

I have to agree that it's probably going to be this way from here on
out. People's interests are too segmented to make any headway in that
department, but we just have to stick with what we know, and hopefully
others will follow.
