I've been to the Everyday Music store on Burnside (iirc) near Powell's Books
in Portland--- and I've always found something good to buy. For instance, I
found some Soundtrack of Our Lives imports and vinyl there where I hadn't
previously seen them in other shops.

That area of Portland just a couple of years ago had several other record
stores within a few blocks of one another...but at least two and maybe three
indie shops in that area have closed relatively recently. EM seems the
survivor and they seem to do a pretty good job.
