[Part 1 text/plain ISO-8859-1 (13.1 kilobytes)] (View Text in a separate window)

The original question had to do with Macca appearing on Late Night Talk
Shows. Not Super Bowl pre-game shows, Stern or Ellen or anything else.
Just late night. I just additionalloy threw in those 2 (Ellen & the
View) because they ARE actual talk shows...but not late night ones?

Checkmate?

OK, not a talk show but... didn't he get "interviewed" by the football
announcers when he played at the super bowl a few years ago?

The Audities Magazine model was quite broad. Insanely Great Pop embraced
the quirky, the twangy, the indie, the loud and pounding (Off Broadway's
"Fallin In'" screams Insanely Great!) and (insert pop genre here).
Power-Pop was not the only popism. I remember the first Audities-List
discussions being about Kyle Vincent and That Thing You Do - neither
following a strict power-pop definition. But the magazine took a dirt
nap shortly after the list began, and its mantra faded.

Anyone remember early-on storm over the Ambrosia discussion? Oh the
heresy - the genre whose name shall not be mentioned - AOR! Now that was
fun! Bash vs. the Bomp crowd. Right up there with the Twee death match
of Mason & Oakes.

I use the term pretty loose and liberally. Especially now when ripping
CDs and needing to tag songs and albums appropriately. Pretty much if
it's catchy and melodic (ranging from balls out to wussy in terms of
power), I'm generally tagging it as "power pop." If nothing else it
helps separate this type of music from more general categories such as
"pop" or "rock."

I know people don't think of Wikipedia as authoritative, but this is as
good a definition as I've seen:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_pop

...if that helps put an end to it. End to it!

Gigolo Aunts - Minor Chords and Major ThemesAbsolutely stellar - every
single song is amazing. This is the album that SHOULD have made them
huge. They opened for Counting Crows on this tour, back when Counting
Crows was huge. You can find this one pretty easily in a cut-out bin at
the few record stores that are left  on a side note I just got back
from my first trip to New York, and while I love the city and its
residents, the record store shopping was absolutely atrocious.
Considering the number of people that live there, there weren't very
many stores ( I went to about 15), and the selection in them was lame -
I went to Greenwich Village (Bleeker Street) and the East Village (St
Mark's Place) - am I missing something? A lot of the music stores that
were in the phone book had since gone out of business. Is this
happening in other cities? I honestly felt like I wasted a day that I
could have been sightseeing instead (or waiting in line to see
Letterman).I know in Calgary, qui!
te a few stores have closed down recently(in the small chance you will
be coming to Calgary, check out RECORDLAND - still the single best
record store I have ever been to ( I know I have to check out Amoeba in
the future). In my opinion, the best city to go music shopping is
without question SEATTLE there has to be about 10 great stores in the
Emerald City. New Yorkers, I know you love your city, and I love it
too, but the music stores stink!

At least one of the Howard Stern Shows with Macca was televised. I

This is question to any of you who write reviews of music (in print,
blog or elsewhere). You all must have written reviews of music that you
loved at that moment in time and then later, after repeated listens
came to believe it didn't really measure up as you thought it had.
Perhaps it simply didn't age as well as you'd assumed. Or conversely,
perhaps you reviewed something you panned at the time but after further
exposure to the music (or simply the timing of hearing it again at
another time in your life) you came to love it.

So my question is do any albums really jump out to you that you
initially loved and came to dismiss or even loath? Or vice versa? Have
you written updated reviews to "correct" your opinion? If your so
inclined to share, I'm just find such things interesting...

Much more loathe then loved.
I was a bit of a music snob (no shit) when I was younger, and I thought
Van Halen and Bon-era AC/DC sucked.
Wrong.

Listen to VH's "Fair Warning". Absolutely rocks. "Unchained", "So This
Is Love?", etc are phenomenal. And it's even got some great backing
harmony vocals on there.

The entire Bon-era of ACDC is absolutely kick ass, balls to the wall
rock. And that band could boogie with the best of 'em. I want to break
shit when I hear "Long Way to the Top", "TNT", "Whole Lotta Rosie" and
such.

Masterpieces of sonic power.
