I fully agree with Stewart. In looking at past 5 - 6 #1 albums from my
"Best Of" lists, I don't think any of them are typical "power pop" band.
Yes I've learned about a ton of great pop bands from this list, but one
of the reasons I still like this list more than any of the other 10-15
lists I'm on is that the knowledge and appreciation of music from
Audities members is superior to that of members on other lists. Kerry
Kompost recently talked about his prog rock band. Awesome. Definitely
appeals to the woefully-underrated-`70's-bass-playing-Mike
Rutherford-fan in me. I recently posted about how excited I am the James
Deem pulled off quite a coup to have The Gladhands reunite at his pop
fest this coming September. I like that I can turn to the same group to
talk/learn about different types of music.
I try to post about new bands or related music news when I can, often to
the sound of crickets. That doesn't stop me from posting, but an
occasional "cool" or "not cool" would at least be some form of dialog.
Maybe my posts don't all go through??
To help the ball rolling, here are a few things I don't recall anybody
talking about:
Dwight Twilley has recently released a shit load of new (old)
recordings. Several rarities comps, an all covers disc and a live disc
The Big Star box set out in September looks amazing. Just disappointed
that the known studio film footage doesn't appear to be part of the box
Did my Cheap Trick does Sgt. Pepper email make it through yesterday? Who
knew that 2009 would be the Year of Bun E. Carlos?
The new Deluxe Edition of "Who Sells Out" is an early contender for
Reissue of the Year.
It looks like there will be 10 bonus tracks from the new Sweet/Hoff
record, but they're going to be download only.

Frankly, I suspect that the main reason they don't post here
frequently anymore is that a lot of the Audities old guard tend to
spend most of our online social time on Facebook these days. It's not
that we're being cliquish or anything, it's just that that's a more
entertaining place to hang because of the multimedia aspects and the
opportunity to discuss things other than music. For instance, David
Bash posted something like a couple dozen videos of great obscure
Canadian pop bands of the '60s and '70s in honor of Canada Day. You
can't really do that on a mailing list.
