I listened to this album for the first time just very recently. I like 
it a lot and I think it represents several aspects of rock music at that 
time. It's mystical, hazy and druggy, making a bridge between 60's 
hippie/folk, early 70's singer songwriters and even a bit of prog rock. 
I really don't know about the sound problem thing since I don't own that cd.
