My Friday treat to myself is the 20th anniversary cd of Prefab Sprout's classic "Steve McQueen". I just got it[ I know-why did I wait so long]. I guess I had no idea how wonderful it would sound. Thanks to Thomas Dolby for that. It's a cliche but true that this album changed my life. And to hear those vocals now, a bit clearer and opened up is amazing. This album has such tender and heartbreaking lyrics like:

"When love breaks down, the things you do
to stop the truth from hurting you."

 "No woops or war cries".

And perhaps my favorite Paddy lyric ever:

"Life's not complete till your heart's missed a beat
and you'll never make it up"

This album touches on country and jazz but it all comes out exquisite pop.A true masterpiece.
I haven't even played the acoustic disc that comes with it. Seeing as though it is the only new recording of Paddy, I need to find some quiet time for that. Of course Mojo has said that Paddy is recording a new group album. I pray that will surface soon. Right now I have this to treasure.
If you are not familiar with this wonderful recording, I urge you to give it a listen. It is beautiful.

  Gene
