Right!  I was going to mention this film after I saw it.  Unfortunately, the main run has already happened, but hopefully they did well enough to expand for another run.

Anvil!  The Story of Anvil is a documentary about a Canadian metal band from the 80's who everyone thought would make it big, but they never quite did.  They toured with and opened for bands like Motorhead, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, etc. but shady record deals and poor promotion stalled their careers.  Except. . . the band hasn't quite realized this fact.  They have been putting out records through the years, working day jobs, and chasing the dream.

As with any compelling documentary, it's all about the personality of the subjects, and with Lips and Robb Reiner, (Yes, insanely coincidental Spinal Tap reference,) you have two fascinating individuals.  They bicker and love like brothers.  They are very different, but they are linked together forever in chasing this dream.

The movie follows the band on an odd little tour of Europe (mostly Eastern Europe) and through misadventures trying to raise money for the next big recording.  I don't want to give surprises away, but let's just say there are MANY ups and downs.  And all the while, enough quotes and stoner moments to give one pause.  As someone who has never heard of the band, it's easy to think this MUST be a parody.  This must be the updated Spinal Tap, this can't be real.  But it is all real.

The band and director were at the screening and they are just as they seem to be on film.  Director Sacha Gervasi is a bit of a bigwig movie writer (The Terminal is his main claim to fame) so this was a real labor of love, and it shows.
