Just got home from seeing the short, tight set (kind of like Taylor Hanson's trousers!)
They did just about everything off the new record, and threw in "I Don't Mind" by the Buzzcocks as an encore. We were debating if they would do a Cheap Trick song or not, the Hanson guy could do a good job of it. I'm not complaining about their choice, though!
This was one of the few times I got well and truly wrapped up in a show, so when we left, I was exhausted and elated, but I don't have much specific that I can say about it! I was IN IT, so I lost the ability to make observations.
They only have a few more dates around the US (I believe Chicago is next, in a couple of days.) If you can see them GO. Calling them a super group is not a misnomer, they have it down and each member brings his own unique signature style to the performance. They all looked like they were having a blast, and I'm sure it has been a while since the non-Hanson men played to an audience so heavily favoring very young women. Understanding this dynamic, everyone in the band wore all black, except for Taylor Hanson, who wore white jeans, a bright red shirt, and a white tie.
I don't know if I'll love the cd. Maybe the songs will sound too samey after a while. BUT, as a live show, it was a really amazing experience.
