On Salerno's side about The Waxwings?! granted, I'm biased, but
threatening to have someone come take the van they were touring in
kind of sucks too.

I don't know, not everyone has to be a rock star and not mingle with
their fans. I understand his perspective from a financial standpoint,
but when bands are just starting out, I'm turned off by the rock star
persona. the whole mightier than thou attitude and flair. What I like
most about bands just starting out is access. to be able to go and say
hello and great show and gee, I really dig your record, etc. It's that
sort of environment that keeps me and even those younger than me, &
much younger than me coming back to shows, telling their friends about
the band, etc.

The band was staying with me here in DC when the shit was seemingly at
its worst point. they almost canceled their DC show to drive back to
Detroit to get a different van.In fact, I almost missed that show with
them opening for The Frames, because they managed to email me and let
me know they were probably going to cancel. I was supposed to work
that night and decided to not take the night off. I only knew they
were indeed playing because a local WEA label rep ended up at dinner
with them. She called the store to tell me, that they were indeed
playing and that they hoped I was still coming to the show. I left
work "sick" that night and ended up selling a bunch of merch. And made
them a Velvet Undergound mix on cassette for them in the early hours
of the morning because The Frames were living it up in their bus. So I
wanted The Waxwings to have a similar soundtrack in the van.

I don't know all the details between them and Salerno and like I
said, I'm definitely biased. and I'm generally turned off by any
asshole type attitude no matter the situation. I'm certainly no
perfect peach of a person, but I do my best!

at any rate, Dean's gone on to be in bands with Brendan Benson, The
Raconteurs, Queens of the Stone Age and now The Dead Weather. The
Waxwings basically disbanded because Dominic was getting married, and
starting a family. At least that's what I know about it. There was the
one record with Brendan Benson. Although I'm really happy for Dean, I
am still hoping for that solo record to come out some time this year.
I haven't heard any more about it, but when I do, I will most
certainly spread the word.

I often wonder what Jim and Dom are up to. I know Jim had issues with
his wrists and arms, which required braces when he wasn't playing
drums. Kevin is in The See See www.myspace.com/theseeseeband
