Why should the song "work"? "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request" wasn't meant to invoke "sentiment creating victory". It was meant to humorously express the frustration of a Cubs fan who was about to go to his ultimate reward without ever seeing the team win a pennant. Have you even heard the song, Bill?
