Actually, it *does* work ... sort of. While it's true that nobody's ever had his cremated remains scattered at home plate at Wrigley Field, a la Goodman -- the ballclub's policy forbids scattering human ashes anywhere in the ballpark, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a city ordinance forbidding it as well -- every season there are still a few Cubs fans who have shuffled off this mortal coil who manage to have their incinerated mortal coils distributed within the ballpark in clandestine fashion by friends and family.

The bleachers are the most popular place for this posthumous *sub rosa* ritual. I can remember sitting in the front row out in right field a number of years ago and helping to distract a nearby usher while some guy poured his old man's ashes into the ivy on the outfield wall from several large ziploc bags he had concealed under his shirt. Luckily for him and for everyone sitting behind him, the wind was blowing in that day.
