Not sure about the 7:45 Eastern time Stewart mentions (although may be from a different showcase), but I'm here at SXSW, and Tinted Windows is playing tonight at 10:00 PM (Austin Time) at SXSW Live, which is video and audio streamed live on the web.
I just caught Echo & The Bunnymen there, and they played a great set (although Ian's voice has lost its high range). I did get to see Future Clouds & Radar twice, once at the Pop Culture Press party, and then again last night at a college bar where the microscopic stage was squeezed between an active staircase and the restrooms. Regardless, they were terrific. My favorite shows so far: The Sonics at Emo's (5 guys now in their sixties, cranking out gargage classics like The Witch, Psycho,and Strychnine like it was 1964. Incredible.); That Petrol Emotion at Elysium and various other venues. They have reformed and still have the power and chops they did in the eighties. They told me they would like to come back to the states in the fall for a tour of the northeast. Biggest disappointment: The Decemberists. They played the entirety of their new album at Stubb's. To my ears, it brought back my worst memories of '70's prog rock. It was one long story, seemingly set in medevial times. The female lead singer was dressed as a medevial maiden. I found it pretentious and boring, although that arbiter of musical taste, the Wall Street Journal, raved about the show.
Off to see That Petrol Emotion again, Tinted Windows, Daniel Johnston and whatever else I can squeeze in ...
