SUNDAY MARCH 15th 2009
ENGLAND in NEW YORK
AMANDA THORPE 9pm MIKE BADGER 10pm
THE LIVING ROOM
154 Ludlow Street, NYC
Amanda Thorpe, co-founding member of Wirebirds (Listen Here! Records)
and Bedsit Poets (Bongo Beat Records), has received rave reviews for
her solo music that "brims with lovely melodies and haunting vocals"
(People Magazine). Her second solo album, Union Square, delivers a
powerful collection of songs set against the wintry backdrop of her
adopted NYC hometown.
While her wistful, moody songs are firmly rooted in the English folk
tradition, Thorpe remains a restless and eclectic musician,
effortlessly blending elements of country, jazz, cabaret, and
electronics to serve her themes of loss and dislocation touched with
hope and anticipation.
"She has a super smooth and totally absorbing voice that immediately
places her in the upper echelons of pop music." (Baby Sue)
"Few other singers in Thorpe's league ever get to sing material this
good; still fewer songwriters in Thorpe's league can deliver it with
as much passion, intensity and subtlety as she does." (Lucid Culture
Press)
