Wouldn't part of the problem be the attempt by the club to maximize their hours of operation? If the show ends at 10:00 pm, so does the money coming in to the bar because that's when people will leave. If a bar is open until midnight or 1:00 pm, music usually runs until an hour before or so, giving bar owners time to empty the place before they close or clean or whatever. If a club ius known to have a show, usually no one would want to arrive after the show is over, so I believe a lot of it is simply the clubs/bars trying to keep money coming in right up until closing time.

I also go to far less shows these days because when the main act doesn't get on until 9:30 then that means I don't get home until midnight and with a child that's just not practical.

Anyone want to set up a club with a crèche?
