I bought a cd by Park Hotell called Free for Friends a few months back from Parasol Records and just got around to listening to it today.I am pleased to say this full disc delivers on the promises made by their previous eps. This is somewhat of a sideproject of the Bear Quartet's Jari Hapaalainen who plays guitars and drums on some of it and co produced it.
While listening i had to try determine what it reminded me of and I will say it sort of distills many of the elements I so enjoyed of music played on college radio in the 80s and 90s. Some of it reminds me of Echo and and the Bunnymen,Wild Swans,Mighty Lemondrops,Kitchens of Distinction,Pale Saints and that ilk with soaring jangley guitars and a driving beat. I am also reminded of mid period Modern English and possibly New Order with the electronics taking more of a back seat to the guitars and a shoegaze element emphasized.
An obvious comparison is the Bear Quartet's more britpoppy material as well as the 1st cd by the Legends (Up Against) and the 1st two Peter Bjorn and John releases.
Anyway if any of this sounds intriguing be sure to check out this disc.
