Website <http://www.martingordon.de>*Radiant Future Records: Newsletter Vol. 7 / January 2009 * /*Contents:*/ *Radio Stars* Well, they came, they performed, they went home again. Intimate details of the London Forum gig (December 13, 2008, about 1000 attendees) and the following night in Southampton (about 12 bucolic farmers and milkmaids in the audience) can be found here <http://www.martingordon.de/menu_5_040.html>, from the perspective of the participants. (We don't mean the farmers and milkmaids). Pictures of this night can be found on Martin Cox's Gigshot site here <http://www.gigshot.co.uk/Radio_Stars_Southampton/index.html>, what a marvellous snapper he is. And evidence of the band's equally snappy performance of 'From a Rabbit' from that same evening can, thanks to Neil Richardson, be found here <http://www.martingordon.de/menu_5_035.html> on YouTube. And of course the band's recent live release 'Something For The Weekend', recorded at the peak of their self-secreting form in the 70s (although they are still pretty good at secreting themselves today) is available here <http://www.martingordon.de/menu_9-Weekend.html>, along with a gratuitously sexist picture. What's wrong with being sexist, anyway? *Part V of the Mammal Trilogy* Why is it called V, you may ask. Actually it's not 'V', it's really called 'U', but the stonemason can't carve a semicircular line, as the chisels are all straight. Following the appalling turn-out in Southampton, heroic drummer and part-time pron-king Steve Budney arrived in Berlin to heroically drum on all tunes before heroically making his way back first to the UK and then even more heroically back to the US, where he heroically now is. The recordings took place in the same studio (on a boat, here <http://www.all-around-music.com/%29>) used to record Chris Townson's drums for Baboon in the Basement, so conceptual continuity applies. 17 songs were recorded. More on the general Mammalian events The latest MySpace blog is here <http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog>. *Trevor White* The long-forgotten-but-seminal video for Trevor White's 'Crazy Kids' single, which featured Chris Townson on drums and Martin Gordon on bass/vocals, turned up at last. Directed by Mike Mansfield, the internationally renowned left-wing civil liberties advocate and QC, it is surprisingly dogma-free, given the director's illustrious background. Except for the title, of course. And here <http://crazeekids-music.blogspot.com/2008/11/trevor-white-crazy-kids-video-update.html> it is. The subversive comedian Bruce Forsyth, shamefully overlooked in the New Year's Honours due to his controversial support for the Khmer Rouge in the 1970's, also makes a fleeting appearance playing the role of Trevor White's father. * Bookings for live performances* Various Mammal manifestations can now be booked for live performances, whether they be full Mammalian band, sensitive duo, or indeed Radio Stars, which are neither. From house concerts to funerals, all possibilities can be catered for. Are you functioning? Do you still have a house? Then get in touch!!! Kick the proceedings off here <http://www.martingordon.de/gigs.html>. *My Space* As MySpace are now joining the digital download gravy train, Radiant Future has created new sites for key acts. Each site will (and in some cases already does) have unique content. Thus we now have: * Jet on MySpace <http://www.myspace.com/jettheukoriginal> * Radio Stars on MySpace <http://www.myspace.com/radiostarsofficial> * Blue Meanies on MySpace <http://www.myspace.com/bluemeaniesUK> Check them out, while keeping it keenly virtual. Of course, you didn't need that advice from us, now really... Be our friend, we will always feel deeply grateful to you for adding us and for showing us some love. Arrrgggh. *Jet *Uncut mag (January 2008) had the temerity to single out Jet as #1 in their _Top 10 Preposterious Glam Makeovers_, leading Donovan and (huh?) Sweeney Todd. The anonymous reporter (although it is in fact our esteemed colleague Phil King) he say : "A glam supergroup (ex-Sparks, the Nice and John's Children), signed to Gary Glitter's management. clothed by Elton John's costumier and produced by Queen's Roy Thomas Baker - surely Jet couldn't fail? But then the drummer broke his leg in a football match with Roger Waters' team on the eve of their first UK tour, and they were sued by DC comics over their LP's cover image. Oops..." Oops indeed. Although we here at the Radiant Future tend to believe the official party line that it was in fact Rod Stewart rather than Roger 'Mine's a Large One' Waters. Elton John's costumier? Jean Seel certainly had her charms.... But Chris' leg was definitely broken, and as a result he only ever played one gig with Jet, that being at the Marquee in 1975. Shortly afterward, the band underwent its Great Trouser Crisis, and eventually emerged as Radio Stars. But what on earth does Uncut mean by 'preposterous makeover'? In point of fact, to be historically, not to say pedantically, accurate, the make-over might apply, chronologically speaking, to Radio Stars, given the aforementioned Trouser dimension. But who are we to pick nits...... The second Jet CD is of course still available here <http://voiceprint.co.uk/web/Release/RFVP003CD/>, the first having been withdrawn following the waving of big sticks. By the way, drop us a line if you're having trouble finding the first Jet CD - it may be that we can provide a solution.... *WE ARE ALL MAMMALS!* * * -- *RADIANT FUTURE RECORDS* Website <http://www.martingordon.de> More music for grown-ups. And iDiots. Please be environmentally friendly and think before you have your next thought. Is it REALLY neccessary? Could you not recycle the half-baked thought that your colleague in the next cage just emitted? And pass it off as your own original thought, thus saving the planet and creating at least half of one whole carbon football, which you can kick around behind the bike-sheds at feeding time? You know it makes sense.
