It's Joey Wilson. Album called "Going Up", came out on Modern Records (part of
ATCO, which - doh - is/was part of Atlantic). Produced by Blondie cat Jimmie
Destri. Records By Mail (www.recordsbymail.com/search.php) has it for $10. The
song is called "If You Don't Want My Love".
I've always thought the line is "it's hard to talk when you think you're
nowhere," but you may be right.
This might be him in 1996. www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9tYbz2h1kw
I haven't listened to the rest of the album in years, but I do pull it out for
the one cut fairly frequently.

Subject: mystery '80s pop song
This one's been an unsolved mystery to me for decades, but at least I've
finally found someone else who's heard the song.? I remember seeing a video,
probably pre-MTV, on some video-clip TV show circa 1981 or '82, but definitely
no later.? The only lines I think I remember go something like, "It's hard to
talk when you think you know her," but I may be way off base.? The message below
comes from someone posting on askville, searching for the same song I've been
searching for.? I've also reproduced the only response he/she received, and you
now know as much as we do.? Clearly, all three of us are looking for the same
song, have no clue what song it is, and only Audities can save us.? Like Obi Wan
Kenobi, you're our only hope.
Do you know this song/artist? I've heard it only once and that was in
the early 1980s on an Atlanta radio station (WLTA FM 100) which played
soft rock. The song is sung by a guy and among the lyrics are these
lines: "Your voice is like a song, singing soft and smooth, like the
break of dawn on a summer's day." "And I hope that you feel the same,
and it's not just another game. And I hope it's the truth, not the gin
and the moon that's making me act so insane."
I've
been searching for years for this song. I've listened to various soft
rock artists and listened to song samples on albums I thought might be
it, but it's been for naught. Has anyone any idea who the singer is or
the title of this20song? I've always thought that the title of the song
might be a woman's name, but I truly do not know.
"The woman's name is either China (or Chyna). I can't find lyrics or song
anywhere either. Driving me nuts too!"
I always thought the woman's name in the song was China or Chyna also, and maybe
also the name of the song, but I was so
unsure of what I thought I was hearing I didn't mention it as a detail
in my post. Glad to know I'm not the only one who 1) Has heard the song
2) Wants very much to know the title and artist and 3) Who also thinks
the woman referred to in the song is named China or Chyna.
Here's hoping someone can satisfy our desire to know this song. If it's
available on CD I'm going to buy it.
