A few years back I was about to record an album with Starcastle's bass player Gary Strater
when he became very ill and died. He was a very gracious man and I miss him.
Starcastle was more than a mere Yes clone, though the comparison isn't exactly a million miles away, either...
Their rhythm section was TIGHT!
I don't think they had the same visionary quality as Yes, but in some ways they rocked harder.... Been a fan since the first album... I remember when Styx started getting big I thought "Man they are totally ripping off Starcastle"! ;-)))
One other thing about Starcastle I recently noticed was that their vocal harmonies had more to do with Sunshine Pop flavors than prog...Seriously! Strange but true
