Yeah, when GIRLFRIEND came out, to me Matthew Sweet was someone who'd
put out a couple of ok-but-nothing-special pop albums.  The massive
hook and Quine geetar blast of the title track made me go "WOW! Who
knew Matthew Sweet had *that* in him?"

I still think GIRLFRIEND is a bit overrated (mostly because it's
overlong, though ALTERED BEAST is just as long and I like it better
than GIRLFRIEND), and that the best album the GIRLFRIEND combo did was
Lloyd Cole's 1990 solo debut, but it's still a damn fine album, that
GIRLFRIEND one.

Yeah, I'm missing the poll.  I'll get a list out sometime, maybe even
later today, but I need some thinkin' and some time to listen, and
both commodities have been in short supply lately.
