Sadly, I didn't buy a lot of new music in 2008, but here is what tickled my fancy:
1. Cliff Hillis The Long Now (why this isn't on more lists, I don't know. Instantly likeable CD from a very talented guy)
2. IKE Where To Begin? (with the loss of bass player Joann Schmidt, is this finally the end? John Faye is a supreme talent)
3. Todd Rundgren Arena (had to be heard live according to all those who attended shows. Todd out "AC/DCs" AC/DC and Def Leppard)
4. Chris Townsend Copenhagen (my musical discovery of the year. Highly recommended)
5. Melanie Doane A Thousand Nights (I have a soft spot for everything she does)
Greatly missed in 2008: The Rosenbergs, Cloud Eleven, Doug Powell, Ken Sharp, Fountains of Wayne, Josh Rouse, Farrah
Best concert: Matt Nathanson at the El Mocambo, Nov/08. The 3rd of 3 shows I saw from him in 2008. Talented, warm and funny onstage.
That's all I can think of at the moment!
