I'll chime in here. I haven't done my top 20 list yet, but I easily know
what my number one will be: Rick Springfield.
I've followed him since his Comic Book Heroes days and, imho, this is his
most consistent and memorable album of his entire catalog. Not a clunker in
the bunch, this guy's got his mojo back and writes and plays some of the
best power pop ever.
I don't think the "Victoria's Secret" single is even top five on this disc.
"Oblivious" is simply too catchy to forget and I LOVE the way "She" starts
off with the blaring chorus right in your face instead of building up to it.
"Sahara" is a very touching tribute to a young girl who died way too soon,
but RS has always written well about death.
"Three Warning Shots," the John Lennon-Mark David Chapman song is a great
angry arena stomper.
I'm telling you, if you've ever liked any of his stuff, this is prime,
mature, rocking Rick Springfield at his very best. Vocals sound strong and
powerful like in his 80's heyday and playing is stellar. Extremely,
extraordinarily, fantastically highly recommended.
Best,
Rick

I think it's pretty darned good. It wasn't on my top 10 of 2008 (which I
will be posting as soon as I have a free moment), but "What's Victoria's
Secret" was in my top 10 songs from albums not only my top 10. Which should
count for something, I think. :-)

I can't believe I'm not hearing anything about the new Rick Springfield
here. Say what you like, but the guy has been a master of thoughtful,
hook-infested power pop since the '80s. I try not to form too many
opinions until I've spun a disc five times, and I'm not there yet, but
the early returns are promising.
