Although I thought pretty long and sorta hard about coming up with a Top
20 this year, in the end, I don't totally match up with personality type
Rob Fleming (Rob Gordon), so parsing my excitements that closely isn't
my style.

I do want to point out the fact that an oldie-but-very-goody still
brings the goodies after 50 years. For what may be his 5th album of the
century (depending on what you feel about the year 2000...), Dion may be
out of the songwriting game - at least for now - but has recorded an
anomaly...a great oldies album. Yeah, the song list seems trite - songs
by Eddie Cochran, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Everly
Brothers, Gene Vincent, Del Shannon, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl
Perkins, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, Bill Haley, and himself -
but the attack by both him in his singing and by guitarist Bob "Crow"
Richardson - is just so strong. Listen to him hit the high-ish notes on
"Runaway". You don't even have to do the apologetic, "for a 68 year
old...." Of course, ya gotta love '50's/early '60's R'n'R to like this.

Sorry about the link to Amazon's short snippets of songs, but in this
case, if you know the songs, you'll know if these versions interest you.
