Subject a good old-fashioned used bin trawl

Tonight was my wife's high school reunion, and since I didn't go to
her high school (through a combination of being a boy and living some
2500 miles away at the time), I had a few hours to kill between
dropping her off and picking her up. I used part of the time to run
over to Ikea to buy a couple things for the new guest room, and after
that, I stopped in the Newbury Comics in Avon MA to have a look in
their used bins. This is exactly the sort of used CD bin that's
always a goldmine, because the Allston and JP hipsters rarely get out
there to the burbs, and the locals have different-enough tastes that
the good stuff gets marked down cheap. Indeed, I stuck to the used
bins marked WICKED CHEAP, which means $3.99 or less, and laid hands on
the following:

$1.99:
SUNBURNT--Martin Phillipps and the Chills
HISTORY--controller.controller
LIFE BEHIND A WINDOW--Double U
WALTZ DARLING--Malcolm McLaren
SOFT COMMANDS--Ken Stringfellow
CALM HADES FLOAT--Windsor for the Derby

$2.99:
MALI MUSIC--Damon Albarn
THE BIRD OF MUSIC--Au Revoir Simone
BEST OF...--Chairmen of the Board
A MAN CALLED E--E
LULLABY FOR LIQUID PIG--Lisa Germano
MANIA--The Lucy Show
PROTEST A DARK ANNIVERSARY--Masters of the Hemisphere
THE PHILOSOPHY OF MOMUS--Momus (I tend to find Momus irritatingly
smarmy, but there are just enough songs I do like that I was willing
to take the plunge)
RECEIVED, TRANSGRESS AND TRANSMITTED--The Nectarine No. 9
WILD FLOWERS: THE BEST OF...--The New Birth
JOYA--Will Oldham
BAKER STREET: THE BEST OF...--Gerry Rafferty (Though I disagree that
it can truly be the best of, since it lacks "Right Down the Line")
THE RADIO ONE SESSIONS--Stackridge
GEE WHIZ AND OTHER HITS--Carla Thomas

$3.99:
WINDY AND OTHER HITS--The Association (which I got largely because it
has such a weirdly random assortment of songs on it, including some
deep album tracks)
THE BEST OF...--The Honey Cone
CLOUDCUCKOOLAND--The Lightning Seeds
MORE SEDUCTION--Manda and the Marbles
SPECIAL VIEW--The Only Ones
ROULETTE--Violet Indiana

All this plus the new Beck 7", since his b-sides are usually fun, and
the ridiculously great debut album by the Vivian Girls, on sale for
$11.88. If, like me, you're an aging Anglophile with fond memories of
the C-86 scene, get this record: the Shop Assistants, the Flatmates,
the early Pastels and Talulah Gosh are all over this thing.

And then I got to sit in the Irish pub next door to the place
Charity's reunion was in and watch the Sox beat the Rays to force a
game seven while eating fried mushrooms and drining Bass. So,
excellent night.
