I saw Squeeze last year in Inner Harbor in Baltimore, and unless something
has gone seriously awry between then and now, it seemed like it was a pretty
joyous reunion.
I have noticed, in subsequent interviews, that Difford has been downplaying
the possibility of a future new Sqqueeze recording where once he was talking
it up quite a bit.
That said, the band were in fabulous form that night in Baltimore. They
played all the "hits," as well as some unexpected deep album cuts from
Argybargy. I went home happy because they played "Piccadilly," which is
probably my favorite song off "East Side Story."
They also played, as I recall, "Slaughtered, Gutted and Heartbroken," from
Frank. If they'd played "Love Circles," or "She Doesn't Have To Shave" from
that record, I'd have died and gone to Heaven.
The rest of the band were terrific as well. I was tickled pink to see John
Bentley up there playing bass -- though I was a great fan of Keith
Wilkinson. And the young fellow from Glenn's solo band on keyboards reminded
me of no one so much as early Steve Nieve.
