I think it is true but my guess is that music critics have not been very influential to most of the people that are in groups like ours. Most of us feel we are "experts" and thus feel that a music critic is not going to tell us much.

I certainly feel that about reggae. There are certain people I will read because I have figured out their tastes are similar to mine so if they like something, I will probably like it as well. I just started a blog of reggae music reviews and I feel that my take on a record is just as a good as any others.

Do you remember on music critics show on MTV in which they would sit around and talk about the best releases of the week? I thought it was a horrible show. It seemed that each music critic was trying to be cooler than the next guy by saying that they were listening to something more obsecure (therefore better) than you or I. Someone was always listening to some CD of "drumming from Angola" that was the best thing they heard all week. I would laugh and just walk away.

All in all, I am glad that music critics are a dying breed.
