Hi folks. Good to hear that a number of you like the blog idea, so I've
forged ahead. Pop Underground now looks sort of presentable. So, here's
how to get started:
* Go to WordPRess.com and set up an account. You'll have a choice -
you can set up your own blog or just a user account. Either way
works - if you want to start your own blog, too, do that. If you
just want to blog with PopU, select the user account option.
* Then send me the e-mail address you used to set up the account and
I'll add you as a writer.
* At that point you can start posting.
* You'll want to write a user page with your bio, probably. To do
this select WRITE/PAGE, enter your info, scroll down and unclick
the pings and comments boxes. Then, on the PAGE PARENT menu select
WRITERS. Then e-mail me to let me know this is done and I'll link
it into the main writers page.
Some handy-dandy tips for those who haven't used WP before.
* We want to keep the entries on the main page to a screen or less,
so when you're writing select a spot a graf or two in, set your
cursor, and click on the 4th icon from the right - the one that
like a small rectangle over a dotted line over a larger rectangle.
This will put a "Keep reading" link at that spot (see the first
post, up now, for an example).
* Tags: tag like a madman - any search word that somebody might
enter that applies, feel free to enter it in that tag box. You can
enter a string with each term separated by a comma or you can just
hit return after each item. Works either way.
* Categories: these we want to keep under control. I've entered some
that I think cover a lot of the ground we'll be writing about, but
I'd be amazed if we didn't need more. If you can think of one we
need to add, e-mail me.
* Images: our content hole is 500 pixels wide, so it's probably good
to keep images to about 250 or so (unless you're doing a
full-column pic). Default - justify the images right. To do that,
in visual mode click the image and hit the right-justify button.
More later, and if you have questions of suggestions e-mail me.

/"...it's a lonesome thing to be passing small towns with the lights
shining sideways when the night is down, or going in strange places
with a dog nosing before you and a dog nosing behind, or drawn to
the cities where you'd hear a voice kissing and talking deep love in
every shadow of the ditch, and you passing on with an empty, hungry
stomach failing from your heart." - John Millington Synge /
