Hey Joe,
One thing I remembered when I read your post was that in the book "We Got The Neutron Bomb, The Untold Story Of LA Punk" Steven Hufsteter of the Quick talks about how he loved Sparks so much he wanted to make a record that sounded like them.
"It was so stupid of me...of all the bands to copy. If I'd decided to copy Led Zeppelin, we would have been huge, but I was such a huge fan of Sparks...and Sparks' most recent albums had changed...and I just didn't like where their music was going anymore...and I badly wanted to do something that brought the sound of their first few records back...it was just a misunderstood carried-away fan thing."
Russell Mael also talks about he didn't have any sympathy for Sparks "rip-off" groups.
