A couple albums that I've been totally captivated by.

The Foxes have one prior EP, which I need to get. Someone recommended them to me, using Midlake as a comparison. I can see the comparison, but Fleet Foxes are more rustic. Maybe a midpoint between Midlake and Iron And Wine? They have superb harmonies. The album just came out on Sub Pop.

The new Sparks album, Exotic Creatures Of The Deep, continues on the path of the last two albums, with the massive choral vocals and classical touches, but it's decidely more pop. Well worth checking out.

But my favorite album of the year is 3 by Portishead. Amazing that they could not have a studio set out for 11 years and come back with such punch. It takes their trip hop approach and adds some really jarring elements.
