Hey Gang! Great to see Chris Squire getting some props. I'm not a huge
YES fan either, but I sure love listening and watching CS play. If
anyone plays "lead bass", I think he may be the guy.
Recommended:
You guys who've been here on list a while probably already own these
books since you're all about the right age (uh, mine) and the first one
was published during the height of the early to mid-90's powerpop
revival. Canadian brothers Don and Jeff Breithaupt wrote "Precious and
Few: Pop Music in the Early '70's" and then followed it up with "Night
Moves: Pop Music in the Late '70's" in 2000. I've thoroughly enjoyed
them both. Not brilliant critical essays or anything at all like that,
just a whole lot of fun. You can get 'em both via amazon for literally
next to nothing.
Lewis Taylor's "Stoned" cd (2005). Holy Cow. I'm now hip to this cat.
The Lost Album is next. On the back of the Stoned record it says
something like "all vocals and instruments by Lewis Taylor". How is that
freakin' possible? I was searching for the names of some super studio
dudes from Sade's band or Tower of Power or somesuch. Man, what a
record!
The Wizard of Oz Collectors Edition on DVD via Netflix. The restored
audio and picture are absolutely astonishing. I shed a tear or two for
the first time in many years when Dorothy was finally about to go home
and had to say goodbye to her travelling companions. The technicolor
high-def Munchkins scared the hell out of me all over again.
