One of the greatest shows I ever went to was a Manitoba's Wild
Kingdom gig at a place called Bonnie's Roxx in Atco, NJ. It was an
all ages kind of place with a stage and floor, and a big caged-off
bar in the middle of the room which made getting a beer like being in
RED DAWN or a steel cage match. I went down with a bunch of pals from
my college radio station and we were all huge Dictators fans and
loved the Manitoba LP. We even found out the Manitoba LP was out
because some friends caught the Fleshtones in Philly and Andy
Shernoff was filling in on bass and told them it was finally out.

Anwyay, we go to the show and the place is PACKED. After suffering
through two or three South Jersey hair-metal Cinderella wanna-bes we
made our way to the front of the crowd for Manitoba (who was top-
billed). When Maniotba hits the stage I turn around to look at one of
my friends and see that the *entire bar* has cleared out... except
for people I know. Seriously, there's 15 people in the crowd and I
know the other 14.

The band is tight despite the small crowd and they love the fact that
we're singing along with every song and shouting out Dictators and
Manitoba stuff to play. By the end of the show it's basically a
request gig and Handsome Dick and Co. play everything you'd ever want
to hear at a Dictators show. After the show, the band hauls their
backstage beer out to the stage and we all sit around till closing
time chatting about music and bands. Somewhere I still have a
backstage pass signed by the whole band that the Handsome One signed
and wrote DFFD under, explaining to me at the time that they had to
get special permission from the Hell's Angels to appropriate their
slogan to use on the album cover.

Manitoba's show on Sirius is fantastic. Anybody ever been to his
place in NYC? I have to get up there one of these days.

DT
